When You Want a “Wow”
Gifting can be powerful.
Gifts have the potential to completely disrupt “business as usual.” A surprise package can break the flow of our day – make us drop everything with a grin. (Actual MAIL? For me? In 2025?)
Intentional items release a flood of oxytocin to our body (facilitating a warm glow of connection) and create a powerful memory. The best gifts keep on giving long after the wrapping gets tossed in the recycle bin.
Here are six of my favorite ways to get the “wow” factor…
Make it intentional.
Pay attention to your people. Craft the details. Listen. Watch. Being intentional could be as simple as sending a thriving succulent to a phytophile. At the end of the day, gifting is a way to make them feel deeply seen.
Make it cool.
By the way, “cool” does NOT mean something you’ve never seen before. Cool, as defined by our team, lives in quality and really great design. Cool is a gift that makes their daily life better (what would make them turn the car around if they forgot it at home)?
Make it practical.
Something wearable. Something drinkable. Something writable. They’re go-to gifts for a reason. A kickass tumbler will outshine a drone that gets regifted to your marketing director’s teenage son (although we can also get you a drone). But don’t “outcool” yourself.
Make it something they wouldn’t buy.
There are certain things you don’t buy for yourself unless you have a massive ego (or you’re a massive nerd). “Oh that laser-etched whiskey set? The one that says THE MAN. THE MYTH. THE LEGEND? Yeah, that was a gift.” 😄
Make it customized.
When we think personalized, most of us think logos, names, and initials. But I’d challenge you to get even more creative. What’s a quote they live by? What values does their company strive for? Don’t be afraid to make it personal.
Make it actionable.
Sometimes you can instigate action with a simple gift. Inspire them to create a memory; whether that’s quality time with their family, deeper connections with the team, or living out your values by giving back. Turn a simple item into a lifestyle.
